    • Setup Breadcrumbs & Categories for Shopify Theme

    Welcome to Breadcrumbs & Categories! This guide will help you set up breadcrumbs and subcategories in your Shopify theme in just a few quick steps.

    Installation

    Install from Shopify App Store

    • Visit the Breadcrumbs & Categories app page

    • Click "Install"

    • Review the permissions and click "Install app"

    • You'll be redirected to the app dashboard

    Quick setup (3 steps)

    After installation, you'll see the Quickstart section in your dashboard. Follow these 3 simple steps:

    Step 1: Activate app embed on your theme

    The first step is to activate the app embed on your published theme. This allows the app to display breadcrumbs and categories on your store.

    • In the dashboard, expand Step 1: Activate app embed

    • The app automatically detects your Live (published) theme

    • Click "Enable app embed" button

    • Click "Save" in the theme editor to activate the embed

    • Status will change to "App embed is Active" with a green badge

    Step 2: Add the block to your theme

    Now you'll add the breadcrumbs and subcategories blocks to your live theme so they appear on your store.

    • Click on "Add blocks to theme" dropdown button

    • You'll see 3 available blocks to choose from:

    • • Breadcrumbs - Navigation breadcrumbs for product/collection pages

    • • Sub-categories - layout text below - Display subcategories with text below images

    • • Sub-categories - layout text overlay - Display subcategories with text overlaid on images

    • Select the block you want to add (you can add multiple blocks)

    • The block will be inserted into your live theme automatically

    Step 3: Configure the structure

    Once the blocks are added to your theme, set up breadcrumbs and subcategories to make navigation clearer and shopping easier for your customers. Learn more about managing categories →

    • Click on "Open categories tree" button

    • You'll see the category tree editor with drag & drop interface

    • Build your category hierarchy:

    • • Drag categories to reorder them

    • • Nest subcategories under parent categories

    • • Create multi-level navigation structures

    • Click "Save" when done

    Verify installation

    After completing the 3 steps, check your product pages:

    • Visit any product on your store

    • You should see breadcrumbs navigation at the top

    • Click the breadcrumb links to test navigation
