Product breadcrumbs dashboard
The single dashboard for managing breadcrumb paths across every product in your Shopify store. See what's automatic, what's custom, what needs review, and fix hundreds of products at once.

What is the Product breadcrumbs dashboard
The Product breadcrumbs dashboard is the control center for every product's breadcrumb path in your store. Open it from the app's left navigation under Product breadcrumbs. Instead of checking breadcrumbs one product at a time, the dashboard syncs your whole catalog and shows, at a glance, which products use an automatic path, which use a custom path, and which ones don't have a valid path yet. That means you can fix problems in bulk instead of product by product.
✅ One screen for your entire catalog. No need to open each product individually
✅ Bulk actions: assign a default collection, set a custom path, or add products to collections for hundreds of products at once
✅ Built-in health check: instantly see how many products need attention before customers or Google do
✅ Always in sync with Shopify. Products, collections, and statuses stay up to date
Why manage breadcrumbs at the store level
🔍 Better SEO at scale: consistent, valid breadcrumb structured data (JSON-LD) across your whole catalog, not just a handful of hand-checked products
⏱️ Save hours of manual work: fix 450 products in one bulk action instead of opening 450 product pages
🚦 Catch problems before customers do: the Needs review count flags products with a broken or missing path immediately after a catalog change
🎯 Mix automatic and manual control: let the Category tree generate paths automatically, and only step in with a default collection or custom path where it matters
Dashboard tour: the 5 stat tiles
At the top of the page, five tiles summarize the health of your entire catalog. Each tile is also a filter. Click a tile to instantly filter the table below to just those products, and click it again to clear the filter.
Active products Automatic Custom Needs review Without a collection
1500 1050 (70.0%) 0 (0.0%) 450 (30.0%) 450 (30.0%)Active products
The number of active products currently synced from your Shopify store. This is your baseline: every other tile is a slice of this total.
Automatic
Products using a breadcrumb path generated automatically by the app: from a default collection, the storefront context, or the deepest eligible collection in your Category tree. No manual work needed for these.
Custom
Products with a hand-built custom breadcrumb path (set via Assign custom path), which is used exactly as saved regardless of collections or Category tree changes.
Needs review
Products without a valid breadcrumb path. This includes products not assigned to any collection, or whose collections currently can't produce a path (for example, a collection that was removed from the Category tree). This is the number to watch after any bulk catalog change.
Without a collection
A subset of Needs review: products that aren't assigned to any Shopify collection at all. These are the fastest to fix. Select them and use Add to collections or Assign default collection in one bulk action.
The product table
Below the stat tiles, the product table lists every product with its current breadcrumb status. Each row shows the product's image and title, its status, its collections, and the breadcrumb path the storefront will use.
Product: thumbnail and title, with a shortcut to preview the product on your Online Store
Status: the product's Shopify status (Active, Draft, Archived)
Collections: the collections this product belongs to
Breadcrumb: the resolved path, plus an Automatic / Custom / Needs review badge and the rule that produced it
Updated: when the product's breadcrumb data last changed (optional column)
Vendor and Handle: additional optional columns
Customize your columns
Click the columns icon above the table to show or hide the Status, Breadcrumb, Collections, Updated, Vendor, and Handle columns, and drag to reorder them. Your layout is remembered the next time you open the dashboard.
Reading the Breadcrumb column
Every row's Breadcrumb cell tells you two things at a glance: a colored badge for the path's status, and, for automatic paths, a short chip explaining which rule produced it.
🔵 Automatic: generated by the app; the chip underneath names the exact rule used, such as *Product default collection*, *Deepest collection in the tree*, or *Shopify collection order*
⚫ Custom: this product has a saved custom breadcrumb path
🔴 Needs review: no valid path is currently available; the product needs a collection, a default collection, or a custom path
🟡 Pending change: you made a bulk edit that hasn't finished processing yet
Search, filter, and sort
Use the search bar and filters above the table to narrow down exactly the products you need.
Search: find products by title
Status tabs: All, Active, Draft, Archived
Vendor filter: narrow the list to one or more vendors
Tag filter: narrow the list by product tag
Collection filter: show only products in a specific collection
Without a collection: quick filter for products with no collection assigned, also reachable from the stat tile
Breadcrumb status: filter to Automatic, Custom, or Needs review products
Bulk actions: fix hundreds of products in one click
Select products with the row checkboxes, or click the Select all N products link that appears (with N replaced by the exact count) to select every product matching your current filters, even across multiple pages. Then apply one of these bulk actions to all of them at once.
Assign default collection
Pick one collection to use as the preferred breadcrumb path for all selected products. The picker shows each collection's image, name, and a Category tree badge (In tree / Unassigned), so you always know whether the collection you're choosing is actually visible in your navigation.
Best for products in 3+ collections where you want one consistent, predictable path
Doesn't remove the product from its other collections. It only decides which one appears in the breadcrumb
Reversible any time with Remove default collection
Assign custom path (or Edit custom path)
Build an exact, level-by-level breadcrumb path for the selected products, independent of collections and the Category tree entirely. Each level can link to a collection, a page, or a custom label and URL you type yourself.
Best for campaigns, bundles, or products that don't fit any real collection
The button reads Edit custom path instead of Assign custom path when every selected product already has one
Requires the Essential plan
Add to collections
Only available when every selected product has no collection at all. Pick one or more collections to add the products to directly from the dashboard. No need to leave the app.
Fastest way to clear out the Without a collection tile
The picker shows the same image, name, and Category tree status as Assign default collection
Remove default collection
Clears the manually assigned default collection from the selected products, letting the app fall back to its automatic rules (deepest collection in the tree, then Category tree order, then Shopify collection order).
Use automatic breadcrumbs
Removes a custom path from the selected products and switches them back to the automatic rule cascade. You'll be asked to confirm before this replaces a saved custom path.
Fixing 'Needs review' products fast
A typical cleanup workflow takes three steps:
1. Click the Needs review (or Without a collection) tile to filter the table to only the affected products
2. Click Select all N products to select every one of them, not just the current page
3. Apply Add to collections or Assign default collection. The Needs review count updates as soon as the bulk job finishes
Improve breadcrumb paths
When products use collections that exist in Shopify but aren't placed in your Category tree yet, the Improve breadcrumb paths button appears at the top of the page. It opens a dedicated list of exactly those collections, with a one-click Add to Category tree action. It's the fastest way to resolve a whole batch of Needs review products caused by missing tree placement.
Breadcrumb generating rules
Click Breadcrumb generating rules at the top of the page any time to see the full, numbered list of rules the storefront uses to build a path: the same 7 rules covered in detail in the Multi-collection breadcrumbs guide, plus a live status badge showing whether Follow visitor path is currently on or off for your store.
Keeping your catalog in sync
Refresh: pulls the latest products, collections, and statuses from Shopify on demand
Sync status: a badge near the page title shows when your catalog was last synced
Show / hide analytics bar: available from the More actions menu, in case you want more table space on a smaller screen
Real example: cleaning up a 1,500-product catalog
Here's a real workflow using the dashboard shown above: a store with 1,500 active products after a big catalog import.
1. Open Product breadcrumbs. The dashboard shows 450 of 1,500 products (30%) need review, all of them missing a collection
2. Click the Without a collection tile. The table filters to exactly those 450 products
3. Click Select all 450 products to select every one of them, even across multiple pages
4. Click Add to collections, search for the right collection, and save. All 450 products are updated in one bulk job
5. Back on the dashboard, Without a collection and Needs review drop toward 0%, and Automatic climbs toward 100%
Active products: 1500
Automatic: 1050 (70.0%)
Custom: 0 (0.0%)
Needs review: 450 (30.0%)
Without a collection: 450 (30.0%)Best practices
Check the dashboard after every large product import. New products often land in Needs review until they're assigned a collection
Use Assign default collection for products that sit in 3+ collections, so their breadcrumb stays predictable
Reach for Custom breadcrumb paths only for exceptions, such as campaigns, bundles, or products with no fitting collection, since custom paths don't update automatically when your catalog changes
Re-run Refresh after making changes directly in Shopify admin so the dashboard reflects the latest data
Keep an eye on the Needs review percentage as a quick, ongoing health metric for your store's SEO
Common questions
This dashboard is where you take action: search, filter, and bulk-edit products. The Multi-collection breadcrumbs guide explains the underlying logic (the 7 rules) that decides which collection shows up when a product belongs to more than one. Use the dashboard day to day, and the rules guide when you need to understand *why* a specific path was chosen.
Bulk actions run as a background job. Affected rows show a Pending change status while the job runs, and the stat tiles update automatically once it completes.
Yes. After selecting a page of products, use the Select all N products link that appears to select every product matching your current search and filters, not just the current page.
Nothing changes. Assign default collection only decides which collection is used in the breadcrumb path. The product stays in every collection it was already in, and customers can still browse it from any of them.
Assign custom path requires the Essential plan. Add to collections is only enabled when every currently selected product has no collection at all. Mixed selections use Assign default collection instead.
Yes. New products start without a collection or a saved path until you assign one, so an import typically raises Needs review and Without a collection until you run a bulk fix.
